Open My Eyes, Change My Mind
Okay, in response to a post somewhere, I'm keeping this open. I've got it set to screen no comments, so you can even post anonymously. That way I don't have to even know who you are if you don't want me to.

Choose a topic, try to convince me I'm wrong. Feel free, it's been done before. Want to rant at me, feel free, I won't delete. Want me to self analyze myself and post what I percieve as character flaws, okay.

    Random Alcohol Check
Yep just had a lovely random alcohol check. So being a good person, I not only allowed the RAs into my room (all I'm required to do) but I opened every drawer, the dresser, the fridge, and let them peek around under the bed for contraband. Yeah, I was getting ready for bed too. Anyhow, awake now...so I'll take out the trash and then head to bed.

    My America...
My America died on a September day in 2001. It did not die when planes crashed into buildings, or into a field in Pennsylvania. It died the moment the paranoia set in, it died the moment the first Muslim was beaten in retaliation.

Let me tell you a few things about the America I've known:
My America did not imprison its own citizens without a lawyer.
My America did not pass legislation that suspends civil liberties.
My America was not obsessed with "F*** you all, the Rapture will happen before I have to take responsibility for my actions".
My America did not fire into crowds of unarmed civilians, refugees of one of its own cities.
My America did not have Doctors who were forced to kill their patients as the lesser of two evils.
My America did not have 'the mainstream' voicing the same opinions as 'domestic fringe terrorist groups'.
My America did not thumb its nose at the world, insisting it could do it alone.
My America did not declare freedom of speech to be treason.
My America did not declare dissenters to be traitors, unlike the current trend of ignoring Theodore Roosevelt's proclomation that to not dissent, to not voice one's opinion, is indeed treasonous.
My America did not force librarians to burn their records or turn them over to a secret police.
My America did not launch wars of agression for one man, or for no apparent reason at all.
My America did not allow traitors to walk free and decide policy; but instead impeached a President based on one lapse of morality.
My America was shaken by pipe bombings, by a Federal building explosion, by abortion clinic bombings, and by an Olympic bombing; all perpetrated by her own citizens; terrorists now ignored in favor of 'foreign devils'.
My America was not as xenophobic, welcoming, within limits, immigrants.
My America did not think twice about flying on an airplane.
My America considered duct tape a tool, not a national defense implement.
My America believed in the worth of the individual, not that they were drones for those in power to wield as pawns.
My America believed in equal rights for women, not regulating their medicines because it might be used to stop sperm and egg from uniting.
My America believed in mapping the genome, not in declaring genetics to be heresy.
My America believed in allowing homosexuals to live and let live, not to be ostracised and demonised.
My America remembered that it was best to hate the sin and love the sinner.
My America responded to terrorism with proportional response, not by stretching the military too thin to properly respond to natural disasters.
My America's largest scandal was over an act of oral sex, not war profiteering, not treason by high level officials, and not price gouging.
My America included scripture in government speeches, but did not use scripture to justify some of the most wicked acts of men.
My America died on a September day four years ago...and it's not coming back.
